Yeah, it's me: Liana K, Canada's Top Fangirl. I didn't come up with that one, the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo did. But I guess it suits. I've also been called the Queen of the Geeks, Canada's Queen of Cosplay, and been told by a top video game producer that I know more about gaming than anyone with a vagina should.
That, in case you're not sure, was a compliment.
You might recognize me from Ed and Red's Night Party!, Newstalk 1010 radio, numerous things on SPACE, G4, and MuchMusic, or maybe my various cosplay guises. Or there's my new show, This Movie Sucks, on CHCH, Saturdays at midnight. I'm also a featured columnist for gamingexcellence.com, Canada's BEST video game website! I'm a pin-up model in the Eidos video game Battlesations: Pacific, AND I'm a DC Comics character -- a lesbian stripper who is Scandal Savage's recurring girlfriend in Secret Six. I also appear in the cosplay book Wonder Women of America.
I'm also about to take my first steps into convention running with Futurecon, a new year's eve party spanning December 30th, 2010, to January 1, 2011.
I tend to be controversial without intending to be. What's the quote? "Well behaved women seldom make history"? I'm an ardent feminist -- yes, these words tend to make men's testicles retract into their bodies, but I'm sure my photos in the pinup section will help relieve that. It's not that scary, guys. Feminism helps us all!
I'm a big believer that the medium is NOT the message OR the massage. It's taken me decades to realize that I am intelligent and I am beautiful, and a woman can be both. I've discovered the world doesn't like that much, so I try to be a trailblazer: to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune as a perpetual experiment in what happens when you defy stereotypes. That's the connection between my otherwise runaway trains of thought.
Can't stop the signal.
